In the future, technology will work together and make decisions for us, though it may not truly understand humans. Currently, technology can have negative effects like distracting and isolating people. However, if designed well with a focus on empathy, emotional intelligence, and human well-being, technology could have positive impacts like strengthening relationships and empowering personal growth. Creating technology with emotional sensitivity, transparency, and a wellness model may lead to a more human future.

ChatGPT is a language model created by OpenAI that can carry on conversations, answer questions, and summarize text through natural language generation. It was trained on a large dataset of conversational text from various online sources to understand and generate human-like responses. While ChatGPT can perform tasks like translation, conversation, and summarization, it also has limitations since it may demonstrate biases from its training data and lacks full human-level context and common sense understanding. Users can get started with ChatGPT by signing up on the website and exploring example queries to learn its capabilities and functionality.

Human intelligence involves learning, adaptation, emotional skills, social skills, and metacognition. Artificial intelligence aims to computationally achieve goals. Theories of intelligence include identifying factors like fluid/crystallized intelligence or multiple intelligences. Measuring intelligence has focused on tests and processing speed/capacity. Culture also influences definitions of and performance on intelligence assessments. While AI can match or exceed humans in narrow domains, it still lacks general human-level intelligence and common sense.
As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to advance and become more integrated into our daily lives, it has become increasingly important to consider the ethical implications of this technology. AI has the potential to transform many industries and improve our lives in numerous ways, but it also raises important ethical questions.
In this presentation, the ethical concerns surrounding AI are explored and discussed, with a focus on the need for ethical guidelines to be developed for AI development and use. We will examine issues such as privacy, bias, transparency, accountability, and the impact on jobs and society as a whole.
Through this exploration, we will consider the various perspectives on these issues and weigh the benefits and drawbacks of different ethical approaches to AI. We will also examine some of the current efforts being made to address these concerns, including the development of ethical frameworks and best practices.
The most important goal of this presentation is to disseminate a deeper understanding of the ethical considerations surrounding AI and the need for ethical guidelines to ensure that this technology is developed and used in a way that benefits all of us while respecting our values and principles.

Indispensable Info Pros: Building Value in an AI WorldMary Ellen Bates
In this keynote presentation at the Frankfurt Book Fair, I offer a fresh perspective of how info pros can look at their services and roles in relation to AI initiatives.
This document discusses how people are developing emotional relationships and attachments to relational artifacts and machines. It explores how this affects concepts of life, love, and what it means to be human. Children in particular describe feeling love and care for objects like Furbies in a way similar to how they feel about living things. The document raises questions about how loving machines may change what love means and how people view themselves and their human identity.
One of our concerns as the Metaverse has taken shape has been that it could just turn out to be place with realistic images but no substance. Now we see impressive advances in artificial intelligence. We ask ourselves; will AI give us a smarter Metaverse?

Users are not like us — they view the world with a completing different filter. As designers, we’ve trained ourselves to notice every little detail about a design — everything grabs our attention. We assume that users do the same when coming to a site or using an application for the first time. We assume that all those details that took us, as the designers, hours to figure out just right will catch a user’s eye and invoke pleasant thoughts and emotions that go along with facilitating a positive user experience.
But, that’s not how our brains work. In fact, the average user will miss almost everything within their field of vision when working with a design for the first time. This phenomenon occurs all the time during usability studies, much to our bewilderment.
Fortunately, recent research within neurological and cognitive science offers some clues to why this behavior occurs. This session will review several concepts that shows how little people actually pay attention to the things they interact with, and will provide some tips and tricks for getting past this mental limitation.
The document discusses how people are developing emotional relationships and attachments to relational artifacts and machines. It explores how this affects concepts of life, love, and what it means to be human. Children in particular are learning about new categories of "alive", distinguishing between an animal and a Furby. The document raises questions about what kinds of relationships with machines are appropriate and how this may change our understanding of emotions, love, and human identity.

Notes from my 2015 TEDx presentation, titled: "We Should Wake Up Before The Machines Do," on the topic of artificial intelligence and consciousness.
Speaker: Daniel Faggella
Location: Southern New Hampshire University
Artificial intelligence and expert systems can be used to both simulate human mental processes and allow computers to think independently. Expert systems are applications that do not require common sense, are generally well understood, can be described objectively, and where human expertise is scarce. While expert systems have advantages like permanent expertise and consistent results, they also have disadvantages like a lack of common sense and inability to explain logic. People and machines each have their own strengths when it comes to decision making.
The biggest risk associated with the Internet of Things is hackers. Devices currently have poor security that has been exploited in attacks like Mirai and Senrio Devil's Ivy. These attacks took advantage of weak default logins and vulnerabilities that allowed hackers to easily take over devices. While technology may enhance human capabilities, computers do not actually have emotions and encoding emotions into algorithms would be extremely complex. Smart devices should provide information to users but not make moral decisions, as algorithms lack qualities like sympathy needed to make such choices.
The document discusses potential future technologies and predicts that artificial intelligence will be a major development. It notes that AI could help companies make better decisions by analyzing large amounts of data and comprehending language better than humans. Virtual reality is also mentioned as a technology that may become more integrated in how people interact with the world. The conclusion states that while the future is difficult to predict, virtual reality shows promise as a next big technology based on current trends and developments by companies.

Deja vu Security CEO Adam Cecchetti was invited to present the keynote speech at this year's (sold-out!) Hushcon in Seattle. Rich in humorous anecdotes and practical analysis, Test For Echo explores the relationship between time, ken, and the future of computer security.
The Future of Humanity
Through our interaction with machines, we develop emotional, human expectations of them. Alexa, for example, comes alive when we speak with it. AI is and will be a representation of its cultural context, the values and ethics we apply to one another as humans.
This machinery is eerily familiar as it mirrors us, and eventually becomes even smarter than us mere mortals. We’re programming its advantages based on how we see ourselves and the world around us, and we’re doing this at an incredible pace. This shift is pervading culture from our perceptions of beauty and aesthetics to how we interact with one another – and our AI.
Infused with technology, we’re asking: what does it means to be human?
Our report examines:
• The evolution of our empathy from humans to animals and robots
• How we treat AI in its infancy like we do a child, allowing it space to grow
• The spectrum of our emotional comfort in a world embracing AI
• The cultural contexts fueling AI biases, such as gender stereotypes, that drive the direction of AI
• How we place an innate trust in machines, more than we do one another
Methodology
For this report, sparks & honey conducted US-focused research on the future of AI. Together with Heartbeat AI Technologies, we examined the emotional sentiment (feeling and emotions) around artificial intelligence in a Heartbeat AI Pulse Survey of 150 people in the US. Tapping into our Influencer Advisory Board and proprietary cultural intelligence system, we combed through thousands of signals to build a vision of the future of AI. We also interviewed leading experts in the field of artificial intelligence.

Future of Work and AI - Digital Disruption in the WorkplaceSotiris Karagiannis
Sotiris Karagiannis gave a presentation on the future of work and how AI will impact the workforce. He discussed how the workforce is shifting to be more programmable and intelligent. Young workers especially value flexibility, remote work, and innovation. New tools that combine human context and AI could enhance collaboration by transcribing discussions, detecting blind spots, and discovering insights. This could help distributed teams, education institutions, and others capture valuable knowledge from meetings. Augmented and virtual reality may also become important collaboration tools to help remote workers feel more present.
No company, institution, government or agency can afford to contain and maintain all the resources they need in house. In a connected and fast changing world those needs are not static, they are dynamic and fast changing. So, outsourcing and insourcing, flexible working, BYOD, Social Networking, Open Access and Apps have become essential to flexibility and adaptability. But, perhaps more importantly ‘collaboration’ provides a prime element to success, that spans most sectors across the planet.
The various modes and tools of eCollaboration between people are well documented including: audio and video conferencing, connected white boards and meeting spaces are perhaps the most common. But there is far more when we include machines. People use and collaborate with machines at all levels, but increasingly the machines are autonomously collaborating.
“When things think, they want to link”
The inclusion of intelligence and smarts sees everything from our mobile devices to laptops, PCs, MainFrames and Super Computers starting to engage in cooperation and invisible conversations. The Cloud is amplifying this to our advantage with a growing range of apps backed up with distributed data, resources, networking, computing power and intelligences. Truth Engines and Intelligent Search and Find are also being developed to make available a range of new (easy to use) group and profession specific apps.
Most of us seem to spend more time locating information and the right people, than we devote to being creative and finding solutions. Our biggest challenge is to understand (in a shorter and shorter time frame), find the appropriate skill cells and get them all to come together as an effective team.
“The power to convene is both rare and coveted”
The old ways of working are falling by the wayside in the leading companies operating in the fastest moving sectors, whilst nothing much is happening (yet) at the other end of the market spectrum. But in this 21C the winners will be the global teams that connect, network and collaborate to maximise there creativity, and become the primary creators and solution finders.
Nicola Strong presented on whether AI can compete with a human smile. The document discussed how robots like Pepper are being used in customer service and hospitality. A smile builds trust between humans and machines. Researchers are developing more emotive robots and virtual assistants with personalities. The future may see AI and robots smiling back at humans, but building trust will require more than just visual cues.
Creativity and empathy: skills for the future (Geneva, 2014)Murilo Gun
The document discusses creativity and empathy as important skills for the future. It argues that creativity and empathy are basic human skills, not just gifts that some people have. While often seen as useful only for certain jobs, creativity and empathy can help solve problems. The document also states that these skills can be optimized and improved through processes like connecting ideas, accepting feedback, and seeing other perspectives. Creativity and empathy are presented as key tools for addressing challenges in fields like biotechnology, nanotechnology, and artificial intelligence.
Similar to Finding Our Happy Place in the Internet of Things (20)
The document outlines 8 ways to "detox your product" rather than detoxing oneself from technology overuse. It suggests ways for product designers to 1) defuse extremes on their platforms, 2) debug endless loops, 3) de-numerate by reducing notifications, 4) de-botify by reducing automated interactions, 5) revive co-presence by supporting human connection, 6) reinstate pauses and friction in user experiences, 7) reclaim conversation by promoting meaningful discussions, and 8) reaffirm empathy by cultivating compassion between users. The overall message is that products should be designed to encourage balance with technology rather than addictive usage.
Artificial intelligence seems poised to remake what it means to be human. We struggle with how human to make our machines, at the same time as we struggle with how to maintain our own humanity. Without emotion, we won’t even get close. The convergence of affective computing and AI will bring us toward an era of emotionally intelligent machines. And, even more important, may lead us to a more humane future for humans, too.
The technology we use every day knows a lot about what we do—what we click on, where we go, and who we follow. But so far, it doesn’t know much about how we feel. That’s changing.
Emotion-sensing technology is moving from an experimental phase to reality. Maybe, our Internet things will start to understand us, cultivating emotional connections and picking up on social cues. What does it mean for how we design technology? This talk, grounded in the latest research and case studies, shows how designers can create rich, emotional experiences for the next wave of emotion-aware technology.
Algorithms are shaping our experience every day. Our Facebook feeds, our Spotify playlists, our Amazon recommendations are creating a personalized window into a world driven by algorithms. As design becomes less about a screen and more about augmenting humans with extended capabilities, new ideas, even potentially more emotional awareness, we will need algorithms. But humans are complicated. Humans change all the time. Algorithms have a hard time with that. Design thinking can bridge the gap between machine learning and human intelligence.
Designing for Happiness: A Positive Future for Technology—SXSW 2016Pamela Pavliscak
We design technologies to make life easier, to help tiresome chores go faster, to add value to people's lives. We strive for seamless interaction. We obsess over the details. We believe that we are making the world a better place. And yet we don’t really talk about happiness.
What does is mean to design for happiness? Based on a combination of design research and data science, this proposed SXSW 2016 session will explore what makes people happiest when they use technology and what we can learn from that to design for positive outcomes. Come away from the session with new inspiration and proven techniques for building happiness into the experience. - Panel voting at: http://panelpicker.sxsw.com/vote/47497
So much attention is focused on how technology makes us sad, lonely, addicted, lazy, and maybe a little stupid. At the same time, we know that technology is actually making all of us feel smart, whole, and connected. What if we could intentionally design technologies for positive emotions and positive outcomes? This is at the heart of happy design.
Learn how to measure for the one thing that matters - happiness - and how to identify the five elements of positive design.
